Volunteer Program National Ranking

The C&O Canal NHP Volunteers-in-Parks Program has continued to expand and grow over recent years.  In fiscal year 2009, the C&O Canal National Historical Park engaged 3,961 volunteers for a total of 75,763 hours.

The number of volunteers we utilized ranked 8th most among the 428 National Park Service sites that reported using volunteers last year.

Furthermore, the amount of volunteer hours contributed to the park ranked 13th, which is a five-spot increase from our placing of 18th in fiscal year 2008.  The park was once again the largest in the National Capital Region in both number of volunteers and hours contributed to the program.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who contributed to acheiving this excellent accomplishment!
