Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park Announces Temporary Closure of Sycamore Island Pedestrian Bridge.


CABIN JOHN, MD – Beginning Tuesday, September 6, the National Park Service will temporarily close the Sycamore Island Bridge for repairs.   The pedestrian bridge which crosses the C&O Canal provides access from MacArthur Boulevard to Sycamore Island.  Repairs are expected to take approximately one month and will include deck replacement, structural maintenance and painting.  The steel truss bridge dates back to the early 1900’s.
